Vagina hygiene tips every woman should know

vagina

VAGINA is an elastic muscular canal with a soft and flexible inner lining which gives lubrication as well as sensation to the female genitalia. This connects the uterus to the outside world. The vulva and labia together make up the entrance, and the cervix of the uterus protruding into, this forms the interior end. Steps to keep the vagina hygienic are as follows:

Avoid using harsh soaps or scented soaps to clean the vagina. The use of soaps laden with harmful chemicals such as glycerol, perfumes, and antiseptics can affect the healthy balance of the bacteria in the vagina.

Avoid douching, it involves the use of certain chemicals which interfere with the vaginal pH. This can disrupt the normal vaginal bacteria.

Vaginal products such as scented hygiene wipes, vaginal deodorants, or scrubs can worsen the condition and make you prone to vaginal infections. Vaginal scrubs leads to peeling of the skin, which further increases your chances of infection.

Unprotected sex carries the risk of catching sexually transmitted diseases which are more common in sexually active individuals who do not use any protection during sex. Using condoms can minimize the chances of infection. Before choosing your condoms check whether that suits you or if that material is allergic. Experiment with new things with added safety.

Avoid lubes, your body produces the amount adequately in the vagina, adding lubes to the run can affect the inner lining in the long run. So wait, it will come. Lubes also can cause infections.
Using lubricants containing glycerine can damage, irritates the vaginal walls.

If your partner has any STDs it is advisable to abstain from any sexual activity for the time being, till the time the symptoms have completely gone or what the doctor said.

Avoid wiping your private area the wrong way around. The correct way is to wipe down the vagina to the anus. Not the other way around, as this causes bacteria from the anus to reach your vagina and can cause infections.

Do not avoid signs of vaginal infection, consult a doctor as soon as possible, whenever your body shows signs, it might be due to any underlying health problem as well.

Avoid home remedies, use ointments, or creams as prescribed for the infection, it’s best to consult a gynaecologist.
